Joseph S.Wells;89;formerly of Fayette Street;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;Dec.5;1995;at 5:30 p.m.in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Township. Born Feb.14;1906;in Hampfield Township;Westmoreland County;he was a son of the late Arthur and Alice Travis River Wells. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon. Mr.Wells had lived in the Belle Vernon area for over 50 years. He had worked as a Prudential insurance agent for 35 years;retiring in 1956. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Virginia Steinbarger Wells;on Feb.21;1987;and a son;Dr.Samuel J.Wells;on March 10;1994. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law;Patricia Wells of Belle Vernon R.D.2;a daughter-in-law;Ruth Wells of Belle Vernon;seven grandchildren;Dr.Edwin D.Wells of Brownstown;Samuel J.Wells and Joseph Wells;both of Belle Vernon;Laura Boatman of Monessen and Robert A.Wells of Croston;Md.;and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Donald A.Bowers of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
