James L.Wanko;72;of 218 Vernon Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Monday;Feb.3;1992;in the Washington Hospital Center;Washington;D.C.;as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Jan.17;1992. Born Dec.1;1919;in Monessen;he was the son of the late Thomas and Helen Korber Wanko. Mr.Wanko was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and American Legion Post 659;both of Belle Vernon. He was a former Prudential agent;working in the Monessen area in the 1950s and was a retired millwright from the U.S.Steel Irvin Works plant. He served with the U.S.Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre of Conflict during World War II. Survivors include his wife;Thelma Koppala Wanko;one daughter;Leslie L.Wanko of Odenton;Md.;three sons;James K.Wanko and Richard W.Wanko;both of Waldorf;Md.;and Douglas L.Wanko of Conyers;Ga.;three grandchildren;David;Tracey and Shannon Wanko;and one brother;Thomas J.Wanko of Upper St.Clair. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon. A Prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.;followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Belle Vernon American Legion will hold services on Friday at 7 p.m.in the funeral home. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of the arrangements.
