Obituary

Robert E.Whitelaw of Cape Coral Fl,formerly of North Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,January 13,1987,in the Cape Coral Nursing Pavillion. He was 73. Mr.Whitelaw was born Sept.29,1913,in Belle Vernon,a son of the late Robert S.and Margaret Hough Whitelaw. A resident of North Belle Vernon for 70 years,he retired in September 1975 as lietenant of Plant Protection at the U.S.Steel Corporation's National Works,McKeesport. He was a life member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department,having joined in 1934. He served as fire chief for 26 years,retiring in 1970. Mr.Whitelaw was a veteran of World War II,having served in the U.S.Army. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church,Cape Coral,Fl,Belle Vernon Lodge 643 F&AM,Arden Calvert VFW Post 167,Charleroi,Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659,Westmoreland County Firemen's Association, and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of 56 years,Mary Jeffries Whitelaw,a son,Robert E.Whitelaw of North Belle Vernon,current chief of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department,two daughters,Mrs.Stephen (Harriet) Labosh of Charleroi and Mrs.R.Byron (Joanne) Weightman,Jr.of Cape Coral,Fl,and three grandchildren,R.Byron III,W.Robert and Valinda Jean Weightman,all of Cape Coral,Fl. A memorial service will be held Monday,Jan.26,1987,at 1 PM in the Belle Vernon Cemetery Chapel with the Rev.Charles LaPlaca,pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon,officiating.
