Obituary

Joseph Vizza,84,of 619 Henry St.,Belle Vernon,died suddenly on Monday,May 14,1990,at 5:03 p.m.in Mon Valley Hospital Inc. He was born in Belle Vernon on Jan.1,1906,a son of the late Vincenzo and Giuseppina Clausi Vizza. Mr.Vizza was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. He was a charter and life member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department. Mr.Vizza was one of the founders of the Belle Vernon Library Association and founder of the former Belle Vernon Board of Trade. Additionally,he is a past member of the Belle Vernon Rotary Club. He served as a representative of the National Dealers Council for two terms as representative from the Pittsburgh zone of the Chrysler/Plymouth Dealers Association. He served that council for over 25 years. Mr.Vizza served for the Dealers Advertising Association of the Greensburg District for over 20 years and for many years as treasurer of the organization. A graduate of mechanics trade school in early life,he started his own mechanic and repair shop in the early 1930s and acted as a sub-dealer for the Dodge Corporation. In 1936 he became dealer for Chrysler/Plymouth Corporation at the former Hilltop Garage in North Belle Vernon,which became Vizza Motor Company in 1939. Mr.Vizza acted as president of Vizza Motors Inc.from 1965 until his death. Mr.Vizza also owned and operated the Park Casino in Monessen from the mid-1940s until 1958,when he sold it. Active in coal sales and stripping,he was the owner of Twilight Industries from 1955 until he sold the corporation in 1972. Mr.Vizza was also active in real estate in the Belle Vernon area for many years. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by two sisters,Lena Domanico and Sue Rizzuto. He is survived by his wife,Rachel Favo Vizza,two sons,Vincent J.(Bud) and his wife Lois A.Vizza of Belle Vernon and Donald R.and his wife Saundra Vizza of Miami,Fla.,a brother,William A.Vizza of Belle Vernon,four sisters,Mrs.Teresa Parise of Belle Vernon,Mrs.Charles (Edith) Ambrose of Belle Vernon,Mrs.Ralph (Alice) Greco of Greenville and Lorraine D'Amico of Sharon,seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Knights of Columbus will hold services on Thursday at 7 p.m.in the funeral home and the North Belle Vernon Fire Department will hold services at 7:30 p.m.on Thursday in the funeral home. If friends wish,memorials may be made to the Belle Vernon Library Association. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of the arrangements.
