Eva Smichnick,86,of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, Sept. 9,1999,at 11:25 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born Nov. 12,1912, in Hunker,Pa., she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Helen Palo Backo. A homemaker,Mrs. Smichnick was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon. She was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Belle Vernon. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law,Joanna and Albert Granato of Coal Center; two brothers, Metro Backo of Belle Vernon and Steve Backo of Monessen; a sister,Helen Koslosky of Belle Vernon; a grandson,Kevin Granato ; a great-grandson, Brandon Granato and a great-granddaughter, Natalie Granato. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smichnick in 1991; four brothers, Michael,Charles,John and Joe Backo and two sisters, Mary Reeder and Ann Ray. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home, 626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Relatives and friends will gather for services on Monday, Sept. 13,at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church,Mary St.,Belle Vernon at 9 a.m. with the Rev. John Kluchko, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
