Amy May Hammitt Sterner;93;of Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;Nov.18;1997;at 9:40 p.m.in Laurel Ridge Nursing Center;Uniontown. She was born Oct.4;1904;in Belle Vernon;a daughter of the late William and Alice Griffith Hammitt. She was a lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon community. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon. Survivors include two sons;Melvin L.Sterner of Belle Vernon and Clifford W.Sterner of Rostraver Township;three sisters;Helen Jackson and Evelyn Grant;both of Belle Vernon;and Eleanor Bajoczky of Tallahassee;Fla.;five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Raymond C.Sterner;on April 19;1976;and one brother;Herman Hammitt. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m.with the Rev.Eugene Spear;pastor of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
