Obituary

Amy May Hammitt Sterner,93,of Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,Nov.18,1997,at 9:40 p.m.in Laurel Ridge Nursing Center,Uniontown. She was born Oct.4,1904,in Belle Vernon,a daughter of the late William and Alice Griffith Hammitt. She was a lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon community. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon. Survivors include two sons,Melvin L.Sterner of Belle Vernon and Clifford W.Sterner of Rostraver Township,three sisters,Helen Jackson and Evelyn Grant,both of Belle Vernon,and Eleanor Bajoczky of Tallahassee,Fla.,five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband,Raymond C.Sterner,on April 19,1976,and one brother,Herman Hammitt. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m.with the Rev.Eugene Spear,pastor of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
