Obituary

Van A. Speers Sr., 67, of West Pike Run Township, died Friday, Aug. 8,1997, at 11:45 p.m. in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born June 11, 1930, in Cleveland, a son of the late Alden 0. and Katherine Bonsch Speers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Belle Vernon. He was active with the Pittsburgh and Suburban Rifle League. He resided in Daisytown for the past 25 years and was formerly of Speers. He was owner of Speers Doors for the last 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Martha Mimidis Speers, with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage on July 14, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Van A. and Robin Speers Jr. and Scott Speers, both of Speers, one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Arnold Alier of Greensville, S C , one brother, James Speers of Streetsboro, Ohio, two sisters, Rebecca Robbins of Speers and Elaine Baldwin of Akron, Ohio, and six grandchildren, Anne, Amie, and Adam Speers, and Elizabeth, Benjamin and Katherine Alier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Anne Speers, who died April 17, 1970. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m.in the First Baptist Church,Belle Vernon,with the Rev.Frank Sgromolo,pastor,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of the arrangements.
