Obituary

Minnie Lucille Bettis Spencer of 177 Terrace Drive,Monongahela,died Friday,April 18,1997,in Mon Valley Hospital,following a short illness. She was born in Plateau,Ala.,a daughter of the late Walter and Bessie Brown Bettis Jr. A lifelong resident of the Mon Valley area,she was retired from Corning Glass in Charleroi. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law,Jane and Robert Harris of Monongahela,Harriett and Racy Bennett of Greenswood,S.C.,and retired Col.Dorothy E.E.Spencer of Spotsylvania,Va.,and one sister-in-law,Frances Bettis of Monessen. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years,the Rev.Harrison Spencer,one daughter,Dr.Carol A.Spencer,two brothers,John Bettis Kelly and Walter Bettis,and one sister,Louise(Easy)Wilson. Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. in the Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home,608 Sixth St.,Monessen. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Mt.Calvary Baptist Church,Reed Ave.,Monessen,with the Rev.Gary Yarborough officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. She was also survived by friends and relatives,including Martha Spencer Farmer of Baltimore,Md.,Sophie Spencer Palmore of Monroeville,and Katheryn Spencer Payne of Martinsburg,Va. The Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
