Virginia P.Smith;87;formerly of Belle Vernon;died Monday Dec.30;1996;in Haven Crest Nursing Home;Carroll Township. She was born Feb.27;1909 in North Belle Vernon;a daughter of the late George T.and Hannah A.Smock Price. She was a member of the First Christian Church;Belle Vernon;and was a lifelong resident of the Charleroi and Belle Vernon areas. She retired in 1972 after 40 years as an elementary school teacher in the Belle Vernon Area School District. Survivors include two nieces;Ruth Sterner of Belle Vernon and Betty Holbrook of Trap Hill;N.C.;and four nephews;John and George Holbrook;both of Belle Vernon;Dallas Price of Belle Vernon and Garnet Mikush of Finleyville. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Kenneth Smith;two brothers;Albert and William Price and one sister;Beth Holbrook. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Donald Bowers;pastor of the First Christian Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of the arrangements.
