Obituary

Mike "Shikey" Salko Sr.,67,of Newell,died Wednesday,March 20,1996,in Mon Valley Hospital,following a lengthy illness.  Born Sept.10,1928,in Lowber,he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Stevens Salko.  Mr. Salko was Catholic by faith.  He was a retired steel mill worker and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a brother, Peter,and a sister,Anna Salko. Surviving are his wife, Jean Schwartz Salko; two daughters, Senior Master Sgt. Dorothy J. Salko and Michelle Salko,both of Newell; three sons,Technical Sgt. Mike Salko Jr.of Rockville,Md.,and Peter Salko and Mark K. Salko,both of Belle Vernon;12 grandchildren Kristina,Shelley,Jennifer,Mary M.,Heather,Mary E.,Hayley,Mark Jr.,Michael,Matthew,Mitchell and James;two sisters, Helen Calcek of Charleroi and Mary Hopper of the state of California;and one brother, John Salko of Fayette City. Friends will be received Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m.,Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday until 10:30 a.m. in the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home,Fayette City. A Blessing service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard E. Mackiewicz officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Arrangements are being made by the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home.
