Obituary

Benjamin Michael Simon,45,of Belle Vernon R.D.3.died Saturday,Jan.23,1993,at 7:48 a.m.in the Jefferson Health Center,Jefferson Borough. Mr.Simon was born May 23,1947,in Monessen,a son of the late Benjamin G.and Stella Hoinka Simon. He was employed as a foreman and machinist for the National Carbide Tool and Dye Company of North Versailles. Mr.Simon was a U.S.Army veteran of the Vietnam War. A Catholic by faith,he had been a resident of the Belle Vernon community for the past 25 years. Mr.Simon was vice president of United Steel Workers of America Local Union No.8302 and was also a member of the Arden Calvert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.167 in Charleroi. Surviving are his wife,Barbara Lane Simon,a son,Benjamin Kenneth Simon,at home,two daughters,Mrs.Kirk (Toni) Melenyzer and Christie Gerdish,both of Charleroi,four sisters,Mrs.Mike (Rose Ann) Kurdilla of Belle Vernon,Mrs.Theresa Opalewski and Mrs.Betty Jane Good,both of Warren,Mich.,and Mrs.Mary Carol Stephans of Pleasant Hills,and many nieces and nephews. Friends were received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Arden Calvert Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.167 services will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Blessing Service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
