Charles w. (Bill) Smoody, 63,of 107 1/2 Homewood Ave.,Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,July 17,1990,in Sewickley Valley Hospital at 8:20 a.m. He was born in Crucible on Oct. 27,1926,a son of the late John and Helen Nagy Smoody, who both died in 1981. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Smoody in 1976. A lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon area,Mr. Smoody had attended Peoples Bible Church of Belle Vernon. He had worked for 38 years for the Standard Slag Company of Aliquippa,formerly the Duquesne Slag Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He is survived by his wife, Anna Sakalik Smoody;two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Sheron) Sippa of Belle Vernon and Mrs. Dennis (Darlene) Ondrejko of Belle Vernon;a brother, Alex Smoody of Louisville, Ky.;many nieces and nephews,including Lisa Smoody of Belle Vernon and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home,Inc., 700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. James Gardner of the Peoples Bible Church officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home,Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
