Marie A.Steen of York.Pa.;formerly of Fayette Avenue;Belle Vernon;died Monday;Jan.30;1989;at 2:05 a.m.in York Hospital. She was 83. Mrs.Steen was born June 30;1905;in Belle Vernon;a daughter of the late Freeman and Beatrice Richards Hixenbaugh. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. A nursing graduate of Presbyterian University Hospital;Pittsburgh;Mrs.Steen had worked at the former Gemmill Hospital in Monessen for many years. She then worked for Dr.Charles Dow in Monessen until her retirement. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband;Leightty Steen;Jan.1;1973;and by a brother;Leo Hixenbaugh. Survivors include one sister;Mrs.Lawrence (Edith Mae) George of York;and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Ferguson Funeral Home;Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;on Wednesday;Feb.1;from 11:30 a;m;until 12:30 p.m.;when services will be held with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair;pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home;Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
