Jess Stopford Jr.,65 Pacific Blvd.,Monessen,died Thursday,Feb. 26,1987,at 7:20 p.m. at his home. He was 59. Mr. Stopford was born in Fairhope on Aug. 15,1927,a son of the late Jesse Stopford Sr. and Mary Hoffman Stopford. He was employed for the past 40 years at the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.,and was working in the blast furnace department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Stopford was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monessen,USWA Local 1229 and the Slovak Home. He was a former member of Knights of Pythians and F&AM Lodge 638. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Stagi Stopford; a daughter,Mrs. Mark (Deborah) McDonough of Copperas Cove,Tex.,two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Gloria) Russo of Coal Center and Mrs. Nelson (Joan) Crouch of Stockdale and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen,on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home chapel Monday at 1 p.m.,with the Rev. Kenneth Peters,pastor of First United Methodist Church,Monessen,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rhome Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements.
