Blanche Meli Southwell;formerly of Allenport;died Tuesday;June 25;1985;at 10:20 a.m.at her home at 18550 Hercules St.;Herperia;Calif. Mrs.Southwell was 77. Born in Allenport;May 8;1908;she was a daughter of the late William E.and Lydia Riley Balmer. Mrs.Southwell was a retired school teacher for the Charleroi Area elementery schools;having instructed pupils at the Ninth Street School;Crest Avenue and North Charleroi elementaries. She was a graduate of what is now California University of Pennsylvania. Precededing her in death was her first husband;Philip S.Meli in 1952 and a son;Phili B.Meli. Surviving are her husband;Ben Southwell;two sons;Thomas E.Meli of Valinda;Calif.;and Lawrence B.Meli of Yreka;Calif.;a daughter;Mrs.Jack (Audrey) Girardin of Fallowfield Township;one sister;Mrs.David (Marjorie) Barnum of Allenport;nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday;June 28;at the Belle Vernon Cemetery Chapel with Rev.Gerald McCormick of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the library at California University of Pennsylvania. The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home;Charleroi;was in charge of arrangements.
