Obituary

Wilford W.Stedman of 108 State St.,(Speers Hill),Charleroi,died suddenly yesterday at 8:15 p.m. in the Mon Valley Hospital. He was 74. Mr.Stedman was born Aug.9,1907 in Nelsonville,Ohio,a son of the late William and Catherine Zephfuss Stedman. A resident of Speers most of his life,Mr.Stedman was a member of Speers United Methodist Church,the Charleroi Elks Club and F&AM Lodge,Charleroi. He was a retired garage foreman at the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. In addition to his parents,Mr.Stedman was preceded in death by his wife,Edith Mertens Stedman who died Nov.4,1981,a brother George and a sister,Florence Smith. Survivors include two brothers,Samuel G. Stedman of Orlando,Fla.,and James M.Stedman of Speers Hill,one niece,Mrs.Sandra North of Media,Pa.,and three nephews,Dr.Jeffrey W.Mertens of McMurray,Kim Mertens of Bluefield,W.Va.,and Wayne Mertens of Cambridge,Ohio. Friends will be received in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.,where services will be held Friday,March 12,at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Dennis M.Henley,pastor of Speers United Methodist Church,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
