One of the Belle Vernon Area’s early residents;Frederick F.Shearer;died Saturday;Aug.18;1979;in Mon Valley Hospital;at the age of 90. Mr.Shearer was born in Jefferson Township;May 31;1889;son of the late James and Amelia Wright Shearer. He was a life long resident of Belle Vernon and was a member of one of Fayette County’s pioneer families. His grandfather;Frederick Shearer;was one of Fayette County’s original commissioners;who was instrumental in establishing the county’s home for the poor. He was also very active and held many offices in the Belle Vernon Presbyterisn Church. A carpenter by trade;he was a member of the Carpenters Local of Charleroi. Preceding him in death was his wife;Bertha Blythe Shearer;in May of 1975. Surviving are one son;Rollin C.Shearer of San Jose;Calif.;one daughter;Mrs.William J.(Thelma) Govier of Monessen;one sister;Helen Shearer of Markleysburg;four grandchildren;Frank Govier of Florence;Ky.;Mrs.Kathy Davies of Monessen;John Shearer and Nancy Shearer of San Jose;Calif.;and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday morning;August 20;1979 at 11 a.m.at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;with the Rev.William H.Popa of the Connellsville United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
