Obituary

One of the Belle Vernon Area's early residents,Frederick F.Shearer,died Saturday,Aug.18,1979,in Mon Valley Hospital,at the age of 90. Mr.Shearer was born in Jefferson Township,May 31,1889,son of the late James and Amelia Wright Shearer. He was a life long resident of Belle Vernon and was a member of one of Fayette County's pioneer families. His grandfather,Frederick Shearer,was one of Fayette County's original commissioners,who was instrumental in establishing the county's home for the poor. He was also very active and held many offices in the Belle Vernon Presbyterisn Church. A carpenter by trade,he was a member of the Carpenters Local of Charleroi. Preceding him in death was his wife,Bertha Blythe Shearer,in May of 1975. Surviving are one son,Rollin C.Shearer of San Jose,Calif.,one daughter,Mrs.William J.(Thelma) Govier of Monessen,one sister,Helen Shearer of Markleysburg,four grandchildren,Frank Govier of Florence,Ky.,Mrs.Kathy Davies of Monessen,John Shearer and Nancy Shearer of San Jose,Calif.,and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday morning,August 20,1979 at 11 a.m.at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,with the Rev.William H.Popa of the Connellsville United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
