Obituary

Thomas Peter Smereczniak,a former Belle Vernon resident,1967 Colleen Dr.,North Huntingdon,died suddenly Tuesday Feb.27,1979 at 11:22 p.m. at Monsour Medical Center,Jeannette,the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that day on Route 30 in N.Huntingdon Twp. He was 31. Born Oct.26,1947 in North Charleroi,he was the son of Afton and Betty Miske Smereczniak of Lynnwood,who survive. Mr.Semerczniak had resided in Belle Vernon until three years ago when he moved to North Huntingdon. Mr.Smereczniak was employed in the Quality Control department of the H.J.Heinz Co.,Pittsburgh. A graduate of California State College,he had received his degree in chemistry in 1970. He was a member of the American Chemical Society. Also he was a member of St.Agnes Catholic Church,North Huntingdon. In addition o his parents,Mr.Smereczniak is survived by his widow,Betsy Nye Smereczniak,a daughter,Kristina Lee,21 months old,at home,one sister,Mrs.Thomas (Marybeth) DeMillion of Pittsburgh,and three brothers,Lt.Commander David Afton Smereczniak of the U.S.Navy,stationed in Sigonella,Italy,Richard N.Smereczniak of Aurora,Ohio,and Mark Anthony Smereczniak,at home. He was preceded in death by a sister,Janice Marie,in Nov.1969. Friends will be received in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home,Saturday at 10:30 a.m.,followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St.Sebastian's Church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Eye Bank,Kidney Foundation or the Heart Fund,through the funeral home. Leonard J.Parzynski,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
