Obituary

George W.Ross,85,of 1023 Knox Ave.,died Sunday,Feb.17,1980,at Mon Valley Hospital. He was born in Pricedale on May 7,1894. He was a retired mill worker and a World War I veteran. As a member of the Speers Street AME Church,Belle Vernon,he was a choir director for many years. He was a songwriter and belonged to the American Society of Composers,Authors,and Publishers (ASCAP). He also was a member of Arden Calvert Post 167 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Charleroi. He is survived by three daughters,Mrs.Deloros Brown Levy of Buffalo,N.Y.,Gladys Brown Hughes of Midland and Mrs.James (Rossie) Robertson of Monessen,one sister,Elizabeth Ross of Youngstown,Ohio,17 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren,four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the William R.Taylor Funeral Home in Monessen from 7 to 9 p.m.Tuesday and from 2 to 4 Wednesday. The body will lie in state then at the church until the time of services at 1 p.m.Thursday. The Rev.W.McGowan,pastor,will officiate. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
