Henry J.Potega;74;of 38 Mulberry St.;Belle Vernon;died Monday;Feb.20;1995;at 12:15 p.m.in Jefferson Hospital;Jefferson Borough. Mr.Potega was born April 13;1920;in Monessen;a son of the late Adam and Maria Kwiakowska Potega. He retired from the former Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation; where he was employed in the Blast Furnace Department. Mr.Potega had been a resident of the Belle Vernon community for the past 11 years;having previously resided in Fallowfield Township. He was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. Mr.Potega was also a member and past president of St.Sebastian’s Holy Name Society and was a member of Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council No.3026. A U.S.Navy veteran of World War II;Mr.Potega achieved the rank of technician fifth grade while serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star and also the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with five Bronze Service Stars. Surviving are his wife;Florence Fijewski Poetga;two daughters;Mrs.Walter (Nan) Ziemba of Belle Vernon and Nadine Potega of Monessen;a son;Patrick Potega of Los Angeles;Calif.;two grandsons;Matthew and Michael Ziemba;a brother;Edward Potinga of Bethel Park;and a sister;Jean Checkaneck of Brooklyn;N.Y. Two sisters;Laura Spitak and Pauline Holub;are deceased. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon. Belle Vernon Council 3026 Knights of Columbus services will be held Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.in the funeral home. A Prayer Service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m.in the funeral home;followed by a noon Mass of Christian Burial in St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
