Mary Kovatch Popelas of 1024 Graham St.;Belle Vernon;died unexpectedly at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday;Feb.18;1986;in Colonial Manor Nursing Home;Bentleyville. She was 79. Mrs.Popelas was born April 3;1906;in Fairhope;a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Bukszar Kovatch. She was a member of the Pricedale Union Church;the American Legion Auxiliary of Belle Vernon;the Charleroi Golden Agers Club and the Belle Vernon Senior Citizens. She had been a resident of Yonkers;N.Y.;for many years;residing in Belle Vernon for the past 20 years. Surviving are one brother;Andrew Kovacs;of Phoenix;Ariz.;and a number of nieces and nephews. On May 29;1928;she married;in Charleroi;Stephen Popelas;who died on July 8;1965. Two sisters;Anna Bongiorno and Elizabeth Hamilton;and two brothers;Stephen and John Kovatch;are deceased. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Greenlee Funeral Home;619 Main St.;Bentleyville. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home;with the Rev.David Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery;Belle Vernon;Pa. The Greenlee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
