Chris Oliphant;89;of Liberty Towers Apartments;California;Pa.;died Friday;Jan.19;1990;in Morgan Personal Care Home in Fayette City. He was born Aug.11;1900;a son of the late Joe and Annie Leach Oliphant. Mr.Oliphant had served in World War II in the U.S.Army. He was a Protestant by faith and had worked for most of his life in the area as a coal miner. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by a son;William Kane Oliphant;who died in 1945 in the service. He is survived by two daughters;Mrs.Earl (Margaret) Ponteri of Bellview and Edna Rose Shank of Knoxville;Tenn;;six grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren;and a niece;Anna Mae Basile of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Home Inc.1008 Furlong Ave.;Roscoe;Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m.at the funeral home with the ReEv.Don Schnaar;pastor of the First Baptist Church of Belle Vernon;officiating. Interment will be held in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ed Melenyzer Funeral Home Inc.of Roscoe is in charge of arrangements.
