Obituary

John Thomas (Tom) Manning, 76, of 404 Roy St., Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996, in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born May 20, 1920, in South Side (Pittsburgh), he was a son of the late Thomas Andrew and Anna Viola Griffith Manning. A member of Dunlevy United Methodist Church, he had resided in the Belle Vernon area his entire adult life. He retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Monessen plant where he was employed as an office clerk. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Peg) Jacobs Manning. Survivors include his wife, Helen Yonko Manning, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tom and Joyce Legg Manning of Cortland, Ohio, and Larry Manning of Des Moines, Iowa, one daughter, Kathy Acton of Hudson, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Shani and Vikki Manning and Larry Acton Jr. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., 700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Rex Wasser of Dunlevy United Methodist Church and the Rev.Charles K.Sowden officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rev.John Horosky of St.John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church of Monessen will conduct a Parastas Service Friday at 7 p.m.in the funeral home. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
