Obituary

John Monita of 117 Price Ave.,Belle Vernon,died Saturday,March 8,1986,at 5:45 p.m.in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 86. Mr.Monita was born July 6,1899,in Wick Haven,a son of the late Michael and Mary Homa Monita. He was a member of Holy Resurection Orthodox Church,Belle Vernon. Mr.Monita had been a Belle Vernon resident since 1934,coming here from Monitoba,Canada. He was a member of the United Mine Workers,retiring in 1960 from the Cresent Mine in Bentleyville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter,Victoria Hatalowich,June 30,1975. Survivors include his wife,Mary Shlante Monita,three daughters,Mrs.Stephen (Virginia) Urchick of Monessen,Victoria LaPenna of Belle Vernon and Vera Merella of West Newton,three sisters in Canada,six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,March 12,at 9 a.m.in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church with Father John Kluchko,pastor,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
