Estella Matthews,of 622 Locust St.,Monessen,died Tuesday,Nov. 18,1980 at Mon Valley Hospital. She was 89. She was born Dec.25,1890 in Roberta, Ga.Mrs. Matthews was a member of the Union Baptist Church of Monessen. She was preceded in death by her husband, David J. Matthews,Sr.,in 1937,and a son, David J. Matthews,Jr.,in 1970. Survivors include a son,William Edwards Matthews of Washington,D.C.,five daughters,Velma Joyner of Monessen,Willa James Newberry of Belle Vernon,Jane Moore of Columbus,Ohio,Theressa D. Wall of Monessen,and Delight Wilson of Cleveland,Ohio,two brothers,Clarence and March Worshams,both of Georgia,a sister, Mamie Worshams,also of Georgia,29 grandchildren,42 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren,and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the William R. Taylor Funeral Home,645 McManan Ave.,Monessen,on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church,with the Rev. Luther Wormack,pastor,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R. Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
