Obituary

Ronald Keys Sr.,53,a former police officer in Monessen,of 428 Clarendon Ave.,Monessen,died Sunday,Jan.12,1992,in Mon Valley Hospital,Inc.,Carroll Township,following a lengthy illness. Born April 29,1938,in Pittsburgh,he was the son of the late Leo and Marie West Keys. He was a graduate of Oliver High School,where he excelled in football,then served two years in th U.S.Army. Following a brief employment at Western Pennsylvania Hospital and the Veterans Administration,both in Pittsburgh,Mr.Keys served as a police officer in the city of Monessen,where he retired at the rank of lieutenant with 13 years of service. He completed the Municipal Police Officers Training Course and attended numerous seminars and classes and was a member of Fraternal order of Police Mon Valley Lodge 87. He was Presbyterian by faith. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by two brothers,Thomas and Phillip,and two sisters,Florence and Leona. Surviving are his wife of 28 years,Wilma Bass Keys,one daughter,Dana Keys-Frezzell,M.D.,of Jefferson Borough,two sons,Ronald J.and Scott,both of Monessen,one grandson,Mark Frezzell,three sisters,Victoria Butler,Hattie Keys and Marie Calloway,all of Pittsburgh,three brothers,Lawrence and George,both of Pittsburgh,and Leo of the state of Colorado,and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the William R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave.,Monessen. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Church,Reed Avenue,Monessen,with Bishop J.E.Bass officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Fredericks Funeral Homes Inc.of Braddock and Homestead,Michael J.Aldrich,funeral director.
