Katherine Mooers, 87, of Belle Vernon, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, in the Hallsworth House Personal Care Home, Monessen. A daughter of the late Carl and Grace Rutledge McCrory, she was born in Fayette City on May 19, 1927. Katherine had resided in Belle Vernon for most of her adult life. Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Hitchcock of Allenport; one son, Ben Hitchcock of Girard, Ohio; two stepchildren, Linda Joy Bonner and Ralph Mooers and his wife, Marge; one sister, June Dunlap of Belle Vernon; five grandchildren, Tom and Billy Houghton, both of New York, Kelly Kromer and her husband, Andy of Ohio, Jennifer Willmitch and her husband Marty of Florida and Mellisa Gross and her husband R.J. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Mooers in 2000; a grandson, Richard Brant; a brother, John McCrory; and a daughter-in-law, Fran Hitchcock on Dec. 12, 2012. There will be no public visitation. A private memorial service and burial in Belle Vernon Cemetery will be held later. The family would like to acknowledge the tender care she received by the staff at the Hallsworth House and Viaquest Hospice.
