Elsie Sowatzki Jewell;formerly of Belle Vernon;died Monday;June 27;1983;at 11 a.m.in Monongahela. She was 87. Mrs.Jewell was born November 19;1895;in Pittsville;Wis.;a daughter of the late August and Augusta Sowatzki. She had resided in Belle Vernon the past 10 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon. She was a member of the Sara Simpson Rebecca Lodge of Elrama;a past matron of Elrama Malta Lodge;and was an elder and past Sunday School teacher at Elrama Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;James C.Jewell Sr.on May 20;1973;four sisters;and three brothers. Survivors include a daughter;Mrs.Clifford (Anna Mae) Harn of Belle Vernon;a son;James C.Jewell Jr.of Erie;two brothers;Donald Sowatzki of Beloit;Wis.;and Ted Sowatzki of Denver;Colo.;five sisters;Mrs.Marion Dary of Ocala;Fla.;Mrs.Mabel Morgan of Normal;Ill.;Mrs.Hattie Snartland of Devil’s Lake;N.D.;Mrs.Margaret Wells of Rockton;Ill.;and Mrs.Rene Bower of Durango;Colo.;eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.in the funeral home with the Rev.David Cook of Belle Vernon officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
