Obituary

James Edward Horan,89,of Charleroi, died Wednesday,June 26,1996,in Mon Valley Hospital.  He was born in Spangler,Dec. 27,1905, a son of the late Peter and Mary Byron Horan.  Mr. Horan was Cathloic by faith.  He retired from the Monessen Police Department as a lieutenant. He was a member of the Mon Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 87, was a life member of Monessen Fire Departmet number one and was a member of the New Society of St. Anne's Church, Belle Vernon. Surviving ae a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Penelope) Dooley of Dunlevy; a brother,Joseph Horan of Allenport;three sisters, Rosemarie Knox and Irene Wiseman, both of Belle Vernon,and Hazel Ayers of Monessen; five grandchildren, Michael Dooley, Linda Filby,Cherie Horan,Jayme Horan and Kerie Noll and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Alice Wilson Horan; one son,James Wilson Horan;two brothers, Robert and Bill Horan and one sister, Patricia Smith. Friends will be received in the Leonard M.Pavlic Funeral Home Inc.,235 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monessen firefighters will gather in the funeral home Friday at 7 p.m. to pay their respects to brother firefighter Horan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Mary,Mother of the Church,Charleroi. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Home Inc.,of Charleroi is in charge of the arrangements.
