Obituary

James R. Hassen Jr., 69, of 404 Market St., Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Nov. 11,1995, at 5:30 a.m. in the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown. Born Aug. 21, 1926, in Belle Vernon, he was a son of the late James R. Sr. and Florence Young Hassen. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. Mr. Hassen was past master of Belle Vernon F&AM Lodge 643. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was also a member of the Lodge of Perfection. Mr. Hassen was past president of the Belle Vernon Lions Club. He was a member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department and Charleroi Elks. A lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon area, he was a former tinner and roofer. He had also worked as a brakeman for the Monessen Southwestern Railroad of WheelingPittsburgh Steel Corp. for 20 years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Jean M. Woods Hassen, two sons, James R. Hassen III of Latrobe and Thomas P. Hassen of Butler, one sister, Mrs. William (Revajane) Tarr of San Antonio, Texas, and three grandchildren, Ryan J , Erin D. and Lauryl E. Hassen In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Griffen. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., 700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Masonic services will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.in the funeral home with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair,pastor,First United Methodist Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is handling arrangements.
