Obituary

Richard J.Holder,76,of 1021 Hunters Trace,Mount Pleasant,S.C.,died Monday Feb.20,1995,at 5:30 p.m.in Roper Hospital,Charleston,S.C. He was born in North Belle Vernon June 14,1918,a son of the late John L.and Maude Richards Holder. Mr.Holder was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. He had lived in South Carolina for the last 10 years,formerly residing in Johnston,R.I.,and Belle Vernon. He retired 11 years ago as an administrator for the Halsworth House in Providence,R.I. A veteran of World War II,he served as a sergeant in the 28th division. Mr.Holder was a member of the Battle of Normandy Foundation. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Ardennes and also a life member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War. Additionally,he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was honorably dischared in 1946 after serving as a German prisoner of war for 15 months. Surviving are a brother,Jack Holder of Belle Vernon,and a sister,Mrs.Joseph (Dolores) Balogh of Spring Valley,Ohio,two nieces and three nephews. In addiiton to his parents,he was preceded in death by a brother,Warren Holder,who was killed in action during World War II and a sister,Margaret Christopher. Friends will be received in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave,Belle Vernon,Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m.with the Rev.Dr.Thomas St.Clair of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery,Belle Vernon. The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,is in charge of the arrangements.
