George B. Shaw Jr., 68, of Fayette City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, in the home of his son, Jason, with his wife, sons and grandsons by his side. A son of the late George and Bertha Shaw, he was born in Charleroi on Sept. 5, 1946. A lifelong resident of Washington Township and Fayette City, George had been a lifelong member of the Marion Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, Local Union No. 24 of Asbestos workers, the American Legion, and was a former member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company. He retired in 1997 after 30 years with his local in the Washington, D.C. area. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Diane Benyak Shaw; three sons; and one daughter-in-law, John W. and Rachel Shaw of Greensburg, Jason W. Shaw of Rostraver Township and Ryan G. Shaw of Monessen; one brother, James W. Shaw and wife, Mary of Landham, Md.; two sisters, Marion Tootsey of Fredericktown, Md., and Patricia Maxwell and husband, Edwin, of Hanover; eight grandchildren, Jon William, Gabriel, Kirsten, Jackie, Chase, Rylee, Raegan and Kerrick; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Angie and Dave Persichetti of Rostraver and George Watson of Monongahela; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved buddy, Zoey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John M. Shaw and William Novisel. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday with Jean Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
