Obituary

John H. Lender, 89, of Monessen, died Monday, April 29, 2002, in his residence. He was born May 9, 1912, in Centerville, a son of the late John H. and Jane Pallent Lender. Mr. Lender was very proud to be a volunteer firefighter, having dedicated over 70 years of his life with the Volunteer Fire Department and Relief Association No. 1 of Monessen. He also was a member of the Polish Club, Monessen AARP, Mon Valley Association of Retired Steelworkers, and a former member of the Elks Lodge 773 and the Masonic Lodge 638, both of Monessen. Mr. Lender attended the First Baptist Church in Monessen and was a retired electrician from the American Chain and Cable Co., Pages plant. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Horn Lender, whom he married on April 5, 1941, two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Myrna Lender of Lower Burrell, and Thomas and Debbie Lender of Monessen, five grandchildren, Brian Lender, Kelly Beltz, Nicole Davis, Kristie Pampena and Jamie Ogrosky, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur, Maurice, Chasen L. and Ernest Lender, and two sisters, Alice Handel and Jennie Lender. Friends will be received in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Monessen Fire Department will hold services Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
