Obituary

Margaret Hammitt of Monessen died Wednesday,Oct.25,1989,at 3:25 a.m.in Westmoreland Hospital,Greensburg. She was 82. Mrs.Hammitt was born Oct.12,1907,in Pittsburgh,a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Balas Melarkey. Residing in Monessen,she was a member of St.Leonard Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to her parents whe was preceded in death by her husband,Herman Hammitt,in 1976,and by s sister,Agnes Volley. Survivors include a daughter,Ruth Hammitt Bradley of Monessen,three sons,Robert A.Hammitt Sr.,Norman L.Hammitt and Thomas E.Hammitt,all of Monessen,two sisters,Mrs.John B.(Dorothy) Kozar of Charleroi and Mrs.Steve (Catherine) Cmar of Fayette City,one brother,Harry Melarkey of Charleroi,15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Stephen D.Yoney Funeral Home,First Street and Schoonmaker Avenue,Monessen,where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m.,followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St.Leonard R.C.Church,Monessen,with the Rev.John Euker as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Stephen D.Yoney Jr.Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
