Obituary

Alma J.Humphries of 1320 Webster St.N.E.,Washington,D.C.,and a former resident of Monessen,died Tuesday,Aug.6,1985,at 3 a.m. in the Washington Hospital Center in Washington,D.C. Mrs.Humphries was 93. Born Oct.16,1891,in Raleigh,N.C.,she was a daughter of the late George and Jane Haywood. In addition to her parents,Mrs.Humphries was preceded in death by her husband,John M.,Jan.28,1961,and by two sons and three daughters. She was a member of the Wayman A.M.E.Church of Monessen. Surviving are three daughters,Martha W.Humphries of Monessen and Naomi E.Powler and Dorcas Glasco,both of Washington,D.C.,a son,Samuel H.Humphries of Monessen,21 grandchildren,35 great-grandchildren,six great-great-grandchildren,a sister,Cora L.Ray of Washington,D.C.,three nephews,James,Sylvester and Jefferson Humphries,a devoted daughter-in-law Mildred Humphries and a son-in-law Lorenzo Glasco,and many devoted relatives and friends. Friends are being received Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Wayman A.M.E.Church,Monessen,where funeral services will be held Saturday,Aug.10,at 11 a.m. with Rev.Robert Taylor,pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Draper Funeral Home,Monessen,is in charge of arrangements.
