Obituary

James Melvin Haywood of Front Street,Fredericktown,died at Haven Crest on Wednesday,Jan.18,1984,at 6:32 a.m. He was 99. Born May 11,1884,in Belle Vernon,he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Haywood. Mr.Haywood was a member ofthe First United Methodist Church of Fredericktown and the Beth-Center Senior Citizens. A resident of Fredericktown for the past 14 years,Mr.Haywood had also made his home in Allenport and Dunlevy. He retired from the Allenport Plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.in 1960. He was preceded in death by his wife,Catherine Guder Haywood in 1960 and three sons,Richard in 1925,Melvin in 1945 and Leland in 1981. Surviving are one son,Clifton R.Haywood of Phillipsburg,Mo., a daughter and son-in-law,Rev.Charles K.and Mary Lou Sowden of Fredericktown,with whom Mr.Haywood made his home,nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends are being received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Robert C.Guffey of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
