Elizabeth Gartland Gales of Speers Hill,Charleroi,died Saturday,Sept.17,1988,at her home. Mrs. Gales was 79. She was born March 8,1919,in Fairhope,a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McHenry Gartland. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Charleroi. Mrs. Gales was a former member of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance Board and the Washington County Democratic Women. She is survived by one son,John Lester Gales of Bethel Park;two daughters,Mrs. Joseph (Peggy) Flint of Hackettstown, N.J.and Mrs, David (Betty) McCloskey of Carroll Twp.;one brother, James Gartland of Columbus,Ohio;one sister,Leona Fullerton of West Newton;nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, Lester L. Gales;three brothers, John,Thomas and Edward Gartland,and two sisters, Nellie Burns and Theresa Gartland. Friends will be received in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home,Inc.,226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi,Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday,Sept. 20,at 10 a.m. in St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church,Charleroi. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,the family suggests memorial contributions in Mrs. Gales name be made to the American Cancer Society. The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home,Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
