Obituary

Linwood Dewey Green died Sunday,Dec.23,1984,at 11:05 p.m. at the home of his daughter,Mrs.Charles (Dorothy) Byrd of 107 Ninth St.,Donora. He was 84. Mr.Greene was born Oct.11,1900,in Durham,N.C.,a son of the late Arthur and Ida Rogers Green. He was baptized Sept.19,1917,at the White Rock Baptist Church in Durham,N.c. Mr.Green then moved to Monessen where he met and married Estelle Elizabeth Bailey. They were married June 2,1927,and had six children. Mr.Green retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.in 1965. He was a member of Union Baptist Church,Monessen,where he served as chairman of the trustee board and chairman of the deacon board. He was also a member of the Gospel Chorus. Mr.Green was preceded in death by his wife on Feb.5,1975. Survivors include two sons,Lynward D.Greene Jr.of Poughkeepsie,N.Y.,and Donald Greene of Dale City,Va.,four daughters,Mrs.Odell (Bertha) Jones of Charleroi,Mrs.Henry (Klara) Brown of Bronx,N.Y.,Mrs.Charles (Dorothy) Byrd of Donora and Mrs. Ulysses (Jessie) Reynolds of Springfield,Va.,one brother,Ashley Green of Durham,N.C.,three sisters,Idonia Sadler of Corona,N.Y.,Jessie Cushinberry of Topeka,Kan.,and Iola DeCambra of Jamica,N.Y.,13 grandchildren,three great-grandchildren,and two aunts,Mrs.Mamie Dunn of Durham.N.C.,and Mrs.Effie Rogers of Asbury Park,N.J. Friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church,Monessen,where services will be held Friday,Dec.28 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Oscar L.Hill,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Trudy Taylor Clanagan of the Willliam R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave.,Monessen,is in charge of arrangements.
