Obituary

Bernice Smith Fields of 56 Zundel St.,Pricedale,died Sunday,Aug.26,1984,in Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Twp. She was 63. Mrs.Fields was born Sept.30,1920,in Richmond,Va.,a daughter of the late Daniel and Marie Smith. She had been a Pricedale resident since 1925. Mrs.Fields was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church,Library,Pa.,and the Shiloh Food Bank. She was preceded in death by her husband,Fred C.(Fish) Fields,in 1974,and by two brothers,Robert and Jennings,and by a sister,Dorothy. Surviving are nine sons,Frederick (Buggie) and Arthur,both of Pricedale,David and Raymond,both of Pontiac,Mich.,Harold C.,a U.S.Marine Corps master sergeant stationed at Camp Pendleton,Calif.,Daniel H.of Lexington Park,Md.,Richard of Cleveland,Ohio,William E.of Dunlevy and Ronald of Pittsburgh,three daughters,Lillian Watkins of Pricedale,Linda Detwiler of Library,Pa.and Marie Jones of Belle Vernon,eight sisters,Bertha Gibson,Jacqueline Smith,Alma Hilton,Aretha Smith,Louise Tansmore and Barbara Smith,all of Pittsburgh,Roberta Hollaway of Donora and Cornilius Cook of Cleveland,Ohio,four brothers,Nathaniel Smith of St.Petersburg,Va.,Albert Smith of Monessen,Calvin Smith of Donora and James Smith of Pittsburgh,30 grandchildren,seven great-grandchildren,and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Fields is also survived by two friends,Inez Wilson and Amanda Hewitt. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at the William R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave.,Monessen and at the Pleasant Green A.M.E.Church on Thursday until 1 p.m.,the time of services with pastor James Gillian of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Library officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
