Obituary

Ernest Davis,pastor of the Wayman A.M.E.Church of Monessen,died Friday,Dec.14,1984,at 6:40 p.m.at Mon Valley Hospital. He was 68. Rev.Davis resided at 315 McKee Way,Monessen. He moved to Monessen five years ago from Pittsburgh,where he had been pastor of the Allen Chapel A.M.E. He was born Nov.30,1916,in Caldwell County,N.C.,the son of the late Elis and Emma Hayes Davis. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II and a Methodist by faith. Mr.Davis has pastored at the Kittanning A.M.E.Church,the St.Paul A.M.E.Church,Midland West Bridgewater A.M.E.,Tarentum Bethel A.M.E.and the Allen Chapel A.M.E. He was a member of the NAACP and his charge was the Third Episcopal District of the A.M.E.Churches. He founded the Kiskie Community Chorus,which is still active. Surviving are his wife,Norma Jean Davis,one son,Ernest J.Broadie of Wilkinsburg,three daughters,Mrs.Samuel (Ernestine) Dean of Youngstown,Ohio,Mrs.Gayle (Karen) Crosby of Duquesne and Yvette Davis of Victoria,Tex.,two brothers,James L.Davis of Durham,N.C.and Luke Floyd,also of Durham,two sisters,the Rev.Naomi Taylor of Durham and Mary Morris,also of Dunham,three uncles,Rev.Edward Hayes of Wilkinsburg,N.C.,Rev.Edison Hayes of Roam River,N.C.,and Gordon Hayes of Pittsburgh,one aunt,Ruby,and a host of relatives and friends,two grandchildren and one on the way. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wayman A.M.E.Church,Monessen. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.in the church,with the Rev.Churchill Carter of Pittsburgh officiating. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
