Obituary

George Davenport,Stockdale,died Wednesday,Oct.10,1984,at 3:50 a.m. in Jefferson Hospital. He was 71. Mr.Davenport was born in Pricedale on June 3,1913,a son of the late Andrew and Fannie Webb Davenport. He retired in 1971 from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.,Allenport plant,where he worked as a machinist. He was Protestant by faith and was a member of the Roscoe Moose Lodge 338 and a life member of both the Roscoe Slovak Club and the Allenport Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a brother,Clyde Davenport. Survivors include his friend and companion,Margaret Merryman,a daughter,Shirley Maksin of Elizabeth,three grandchildren,Sherry,Stacy and John Jr,two great-grandchildren,a brother,Elmer of Greenwood,Ind.,a sister,Kathryn Hanchin of Belle Vernon,and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes,Inc.,1008 Furlong Ave.,Roscoe,where services will be held on Saturday,Oct.13,at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Seth P.Bower,pastor of the United Methodist Church of Roscoe,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Ed Melenyzer Funeral Homes,Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
