Obituary

Beverly C.Draper,a Monessen mortician for the past 35 years,of 608 Sixth St.,Monessen,died Wednesday,Aug.24,1983,in Presbyterian University Hospital,Pittsburgh,following a short illness. He was 69. Mr.Draper was born Nov.17,1913,in Monessen,a son of the late Bennie and Mary Stamper Draper. In 1948,he founded the Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home at 608 Sixth St.,Monessen. In 1976,he retired as an employee of the Monessen Pittsburgh Steel Corporation. Mr.Draper was a member of the Union Baptist Church,Monessen,where he served as a past trustee. He was also a past master of F&AM Lodge No.76,Monessen,and had served as treasurer of the Bee Hive Club of Lodge No.79. Mr.Draper was also treasurer of the 11th Masonic District,F&AM. He was also a member of the Mon Valley Branch of the NAACP,the Mon Valley Lodge,IBPOE of W.,Donora,and the Joseph H.Ford American Legion Post No.691,Monessen. Mr.Draper was a graduate of Wayne University,Detroit,Mich.,the Cincinnati (Ohio) School of Embalming,and Echel's School of Mortuary,Philadelphia,Pa. He had also attended the School of Embalming in Pittsburgh. Mr.Draper was a military veteran,having served with the U.S.Army in Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter,Joyce Draper McLee,on Oct.14,1967. Surviving are his wife,Helen Christian Draper,at home,one son,Beverly C.(Johnny) Draper Jr.,also at home,a grandson,Kevin McLee of Pittsburgh,a granddaughter,Milenia Draper of Philadelphia,Pa.,two sisters,Mrs.Harry (Ruby) McCraw of Monessen and Dundeenah Draper of Detroit,Mich.,two nieces,Dr.Carolyn Carter of Pittsburgh and Mrs.Marilyn Simpson of Monessen,a sister-in-law,Mrs.Hilda Dudley of McKeesport,two godsons,Craig L.Lanier of Monessen and Robert Middleton of McKeesport,cousins,great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Friends will be received at the Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home,608 Sixth St.,Monessen,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. The body will then be transferred to the Union Baptist Church,Monessen,where it will lie in state Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic Services will be held at Union Baptist Church Friday at 8 p.m. Services will be held at Union Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Oscar L.Hill,pastor,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Beverly C.Draper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
