Obituary

Samuel O. (Shiek) Destefano of 1197 Leeds Ave., Monessen, died Sunday,July 26,1981, at 2 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 59. Mr. Destefano was born in July 20, 1922, in Monessen, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was employed in the Steam Plant at the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. until his disability retirement in 1980. Mr. Destefano was a 1940 graduate of Monessen High School, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of St. Leonard's R.C. Church. He also was a member of B.P.O.E. 773, Thomas McKee American Legion Post 28, and Knights of Columbus, Monessen Council 954. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Destefano, in 1972, and a son, Gary L. Destefano, in June 1979. Survivors include his widow, Muriel Reese Destefano, his mother, Ruth Destefano of Monessen, one son, Randy Destefano of Perryopolis R D 2, one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Roxanne) Gee of Monessen, a granddaughter, Amy Gee, and a sister, Mrs. Rita Henson of Monessen. Friends will be received in the Rhome Funeral Home, Inc., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Tuesday in the Rhome Funeral Home,Inc.1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen. A Blessing service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.followed at 10 a.m.by a Mass of Christian Burial in St.Leonard's R.C.Church,Monessen. The Rev.Patrick O'Connor,pastor,will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Parish Rosary will be recited in the funeral home Tuesday evening. Rhome funeral directors are in charge of arrangements.
