John T. Popik, 82, of Belle Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Country Care Manor. A son of the late John and Anna Hanustak Popik, he was born in Homestead on August 6, 1936. Formerly of West Mifflin, he had been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1991. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and had been a heavy equipment mechanic at the LaFarge Company, retiring in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Edie Lynn Popik; two stepchildren; Sheri (Richard) Wiant of Belle Vernon and Pam (Craig) Ambrose of Belle Vernon; five daughters, Diane Kern, Erin Kosonavich, Cheryl Pasternak, Michelle, Carol; many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Debbie and grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The members of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will meet in the funeral home at 7 P.M. Thursday to pay their respects to Mr. Popik, the father-in-law of fireman, Craig Ambrose.
