Joan L. “Bootsie” Schaum, 86, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in her home. She was born February 8, 1936 in Pricedale, the daughter of Vernon W. and Susan M. Rabatin Walters. Joan was a graduate of Rostraver High School, class of 1954, She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. She retired from Giant Eagle where she worked in the bakery for several years and she volunteered her time at the Monongahela Area Library. Joan enjoyed walking, spending time with her family and loved animals of all kinds. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle "Micki" Day of Monongahela; two sons, Chuck (Susie) Schaum of Robinson Township. Vic (Debbie) Schaum of Surprise, AZ; four grandchildren, Stephani (Steve) Hulec, Jacki Day, Chuck (Kimberly) Schaum, Chris Schaum; four great grandchildren, Maximus, Nikolas, and Rosalyn Hulec, Charlie Schaum. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George "Jack" and Vernon "Spank" Walters; sister, Loretta "Tootsie" Malone; son-in-law, Bobby "Hunky" Day; and her former husband, Charles G. Schaum. Visitations and funeral services for Joan were private. Interment was in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Frye Funeral Home, Inc.
