Obituary

Jacob "Jake" T. Hewitt, 81, of North Belle Vernon, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, at 4:48 p.m. at his home. Born Jan. 7, 1934, in Speers, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Mary Ann Rodgers Hewitt. A resident of North Belle Vernon for the past 58 years, Mr. Hewitt was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and was a retired foreman at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport plant. A veteran of the Korean war, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He served as chairman of the supervisory committee at Mon Valley Federal Credit Union, Allenport, for 40 years and was employed with the family business, Jake's pizza in North Belle Vernon and Rostraver. Jake enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City with his wife, vacations with his children and grandchildren, and his bingo nights with his friends Phil and Wanda Bongiorno. He is survived by a son, Robert B. Hewitt of Rostraver Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Merrie Lu "Sissy" and Jesse Podroskey of North Belle Vernon, and Dayna and Ron Bethem of Brownsville; sister and brother-in-law, Louvisa and Bud McKevitt of Glenshaw; sister-in-law, Norma June Hewitt of Greensburg; grandchildren, Rhiannon, Melissa, Erik, Bryan, Shawn, Lee, Jacob, Karrie, Jill, Jared, Erin, Neal; great-grandchildren, Cage, Steven, Catherine, Timothy and Bradley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merry K. "Tootsie" Wysochanski Hewitt July 12, 2006; brother, Robert W. Hewitt; two sisters, Betsy Griffith and Carolyn Crouch; and a great-grandson, Robert Hewitt July 2, 2015. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayer service will be held 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian RC Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick, pastor, as celebrant.
