Obituary

Major F.Corley of 965 Alexander Ave.,Monessen,died Wednesday,Oct.8,1980,at 7:50 a.m.in Presbyterian University Hospital,Pittsburgh.  He was 63.  Mr.Corley was born Dec.25,1916,in Statsboro,Ga.,a son of the late Albert Corley Sr.and Mary Ann George Corley.  He was a retired employee of the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.and the Frank Irey Construction Co.,Monongahela.  A well-known sports figure in the Mon Valley during the 1930's,Mr.Corley was noted for his play in football,basketball and softball.  He was a member of the Wayman AME Church,Monessen, the United Steel Workers of America,and Monessen F&,AM Lodge No.79.  Mr.Corley and his wife,Beatrice,who survives,were married 41 years.They were the parents of two children,a son,Major K.Corley,of Monessen,and a daughter,Mary Margaret Moore,of Houston,Tex.,both of whom survive.  Also surviving are a foster daughter,Hortense Maddox,of Monessen,a brother,Lucoius Corley,of Monessen,three sisters,Marie Little,Mae Berta Jones and Leverne Crenshaw,all of Monessen,and two grandchildren.  Friends will be received at the William R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave.,Monessen,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.in Wayman AME Church,Monessen,with the Rev.E.E.Davis,pastor,officiating.  Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
