Major F.Corley of 965 Alexander Ave.;Monessen;died Wednesday;Oct.8;1980;at 7:50 a.m.in Presbyterian University Hospital;Pittsburgh. He was 63. Mr.Corley was born Dec.25;1916;in Statsboro;Ga.;a son of the late Albert Corley Sr.and Mary Ann George Corley. He was a retired employee of the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.and the Frank Irey Construction Co.;Monongahela. A well-known sports figure in the Mon Valley during the 1930’s;Mr.Corley was noted for his play in football;basketball and softball. He was a member of the Wayman AME Church;Monessen; the United Steel Workers of America;and Monessen F&AM Lodge No.79. Mr.Corley and his wife;Beatrice;who survives;were married 41 years.They were the parents of two children;a son;Major K.Corley;of Monessen;and a daughter;Mary Margaret Moore;of Houston;Tex.;both of whom survive. Also surviving are a foster daughter;Hortense Maddox;of Monessen;a brother;Lucoius Corley;of Monessen;three sisters;Marie Little;Mae Berta Jones and Leverne Crenshaw;all of Monessen;and two grandchildren. Friends will be received at the William R.Taylor Funeral Home;645 McMahon Ave.;Monessen;Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.in Wayman AME Church;Monessen;with the Rev.E.E.Davis;pastor;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
