Obituary

Alex F.Basits Sr.,of 225 Water St.,Belle Vernon,died Sunday,Jan.26,1986,at 3:53 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 79. Mr.Basits was born Oct.15,1906,in Braznell,a son of the late Joseph and Mary Steinhauer Basits. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon,he was Protestant. Mr.Basits had served as a Belle Vernon Borough councilman,and had also served the borough in the capacity of treasurer until retiring that post in 1985. In addition,he had served as a Justice of the Peace. Mr.Basits was a member of the Belle Vernon Fire Company No.1 and was a charter member and the oldest living member of Belle Vernon Fire Company No.2. In 1972 he retired from the tube mill of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation's Allenport Plant. He was a member of Belle Vernon Moose Lodge 209,American Legion Post 659 and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister,Edward,Joseph and Helen. Survivors include his wife of 55 years,Evelyn Chipalaskey Basits,a son,Alex F.Basits Jr.of Belle Vernon,two daughters,Mrs.John (Mary Lou) Kalakewich of Belle Vernon and Betty Jane Simpson of Centerville,Va.,two sisters,Margaret Cline of the state of California and Mrs.Louis (Teresa) Hager of Clarksville,ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Thursday,Jan.30,at 11 a.m. with the Rev.Lowell Adams,pastor of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
