Mary E. Brookes of 338 Main st.,Belle Vernon,died Tuesday, Jan. 31,1984,at 3:30 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. She was 76. Mrs. Brookes was born Dec. 5,1907,in Whitsett, a daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Delansky. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon,and the Legion of Mary. A resident of the Belle Vernon area for over 40 years,Mrs. Brookes retired in 1971 from the U.S. Steel Corp,Irvin Works. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Brookes in 1965,and a son Robert Kayda in 1972. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin L. and Peggy Kayda of Belle Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Kayda of Belle Vernon R.D.1, one brother, Joseph Delansky of Charleroi;four sisters, Mrs. Ann Slavik and Mrs. Helen Ribik,both of Monessen,Mrs. Margaret Clark of Belle Vernon and Mrs. Emma Ornot of Charleroi; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Prayer services will begin on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D. Ferguson,funeral director, is in charge of arrangements.
