Irene Modrak Mendicino; 89; of Belle Vernon; Washington Township; died Tuesday; March 15; 2011; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born July 29; 1921; in Pricedale; she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Motchkoski Modrak. A resident of Washington Township for the past 60 years; Mrs. Mendicino was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and a retired storekeeper and owner of Anna and Irene’s Grocery. She was a member of the former Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026 Ladies Auxiliary and former Catholic Daughters of the Americas Belle Vernon Court 1522. She loved to play cards; enjoyed swimming and trips to the casino. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Beverly and Richard Lubecki; of Washington Township; two grandchildren; R. James and Jennifer Lubecki; of New Stanton; Lindsay and Michael Anness; of Pittsburgh; two great-grandchildren; Lauryn Lubecki and Nicholas Lubecki; a brother; William Modrak; of Washington Township; and a sister-in-law; Dolores Modrak; of Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband; James F. Mendicino; on Feb. 14; 2010; three infant children; two brothers; Michael and Frank Modrak; and a sister; Margaret Fabian. Visitation will be held Friday; March 18; from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; Family Owned and Operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon; (724) 929-6183. Prayer service will be held Saturday; March 19; at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick; pastor; as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Church will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Irene Mendicino Friday at 3 p.m. and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus will conduct services Friday evening at 7 p.m.; both in the funeral home.
